Four Orillia residents among 62 new COVID cases in region today

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 62 new cases of COVID-19 in the region today. 

Included on the Dec. 18 list of new COVID-19 cases are four Orillia residents one Clearview resident, one Wasaga Beach resident, 16 Barrie residents, six Bradford West Gwillimbury residents, five Innisfil residents, and two Midland residents. 

The breakdown of cases provided by the health unit is as follows. All case transmissions are under investigation unless otherwise indicated: 

  • Orillia (4): Two women between 35 and 44 years old, one man between 65 and 79 years old and one woman over 80 years old whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak.
  • Ramara (1): One man between 65 and 79 years old. 
  • Oro-Medonte (2): One woman between 45 and 64 years old whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak. One woman over 80 whose case is under investigation.
  • Midland (2): One girl under 18, and one woman between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Severn (1): One man between 35 and 44 years old. 
  • Tay (1): One man between 65 and 79 years old whose case is linked to close contact. 
  • Penetanguishene (5): Four individuals between 18 and 34 years old whose cases are linked to an institutional outbreak and one man between 35 and 44 years old whose case is under investigation. 
  • Clearview (1): One man between 45 and 64 years old.
  • Wasaga Beach (1): One man between 18 and 34 years old whose case was community-acquired.
  • Barrie (16): Two girls and two boys under 18, two women, three men and one other individual between 18 and 34 years old, one woman and one man between 35 and 44 years old, one woman and three men between 45 and 64 years old. There is one community-acquired case, one linked to an institutional outbreak, and one linked to a workplace outbreak out of region.
  • Springwater (1): One man between 65 and 79 years old whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak.
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (6): One woman and a man between 18 and 34 years old, one woman between 35 and 44 years old, and two women and a man between 45 and 64 years old.
  • Innisfil (5): One boy under 18, one man between 18 and 34 years old, and one woman and two men between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Five cases are listed with location information still pending and there are two new cases in Huntsville, one in Essa, two from Adjala-Tosorontio, and six in new Tecumseth. 

The local health unit has now confirmed 2,898 cases of COVID-19 with 2,377 of those cases recovered and 58 cases ending in death. There are approximately 430 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.

There are at least 15 people from Simcoe County hospitalized. 

There have been 2,771 cases confirmed in just Simcoe County, with 2,271 of those now recovered and 56 deaths.
