Health unit reports 51 new COVID cases in Simcoe County

There has not been a single new case reported in Orillia this month, says the health unit

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 51 new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County since Friday. 

The health unit has also declared an outbreak at Sunset Manor in Collingwood.

The County of Simcoe announced late last night one staff member at Sunset Manor Long-Term Care tested positive for COVID-19. The nurse was showing symptoms at home and was tested. The staff member's last shift at the home was on Nov. 4.

The county said it is implementing enhanced measures to protect residents and staff. The staff case is the only known case at the home to date. 

There are 13 new cases in Barrie today, including three linked to institutional outbreaks (two women over 80 and a woman between 18 and 24 years old). 

The three new institutional outbreak cases reported today are linked to the outbreak at Allandale Station Retirement Residence, and include two residents and one staff member. 

There are three active outbreaks at Barrie long-term care facilities, including Waterford Retirement Home (one resident case), Allandale Station Retirement Residence (three residents and two staff) and IOOF's Baldwin Lane unit (one staff case). 

The other Barrie cases include a boy under 18 (close contact), two women and two men between 18 and 34 years old (all close contact), a woman and two men between 35 and 44 years old (two under investigation, one community-acquired), and two women between 45 and 64 years old (one community-acquired and one workplace outbreak). 

There are nine new cases in Bradford West Gwillimbury today including two boys under 18 (close contact), a man and a woman between 18 and 34 (under investigation), two women and a man between 35 and 44 years old (close contact), and a man and a woman between 45 and 64 years old (travel, close contact). 

There are two cases in Innisfil included in today's report, including a woman between 45 and 64 years old whose case was community-acquired and a woman between 65 and 79 years old whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak.

There is one new case in Midland and two new cases in Tay. Those cases include a Midland man between 45 and 64 years old (under investigation), a Tay woman between 45 and 64 years old (under investigation, and a man over the age of 80 whose case is community-acquired. 

The health unit reported six new Essa cases, including a boy and a girl under 18 (one travel linked, and one under investigation, a woman and a man between 18 and 34 years old and two men between 45 and 64 years old (all close contact). 

The health unit is also reporting two new COVID cases in Clearview and two in Wasaga Beach. The Clearview cases include a man and a woman between 18 and 34 years old. The woman's case is linked to an institutional outbreak and the man's case is close contact. The Wasaga Beach cases include a woman between 65 and 79 years old whose case is under investigation, and a woman over the age of 80 whose case is linked to close contact. 

The final 14 cases reported today are all from New Tecumseth and include two girls and a boy under 18, a woman and three men between 18 and 34 years old, a woman and two men between 35 and 44 years old, a woman and two men between 45 and 64 years old, and a woman between 65 and 79 years old. There are four close contact cases, three community-acquired cases, and six cases still under investigation. The case involving the woman between 45 and 64 years old is linked to an institutional outbreak. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,544 cases of COVID-19, with 1,462 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,323 cases listed as recovered in the region. Six people are currently hospitalized. The health unit has recorded 50 deaths.

The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 277 cases per 100,000 people.
