Mayor applauds 'stay safe shop local' campaign launched this week

'Local businesses keep the economy moving,' says mayor, noting 70 cents of every dollar spent locally is re-circulated in the local economy

Nearly 70 cents of every dollar spent locally stays in the local economy, says Mayor Steve Clarke.

That's why, as this pandemic threatens the future of many local enterprises, it's more important than ever to support Orillia and area businesses, he said.

It's also why the city's Economic Recovery Task Force launched an "exciting initiative" this week aimed at encouraging residents to shop local.

The 'Stay Safe Shop Local' campaign is meant to remind residents that local businesses not only serve the needs of local families, they actively participate in the community in countless ways.

"Local businesses keep the local economy moving. It's not the big online retailers that do that," stressed the mayor.

It's time to renew your relationship with your favourite local retailer, said the mayor.
