Two Simcoe County-operated long-term care homes have seen increases in COVID-19 cases over the New Year’s holiday.
Trillium Manor in Orillia is seeing an uptick in cases over the weekend, reporting eight positive resident cases and 13 positive staff cases. One resident died on Dec. 24.
At this time, all positive cases to date continue to be isolated.
According to the county officials, cases have been traced back to the Oro-Medonte unit. The unit is currently in isolation, while other units at the home are in quarantine as a precaution.
Trillium Manor is home to 114 residents total, and employs 180 staff members.
Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene has now also confirmed three positive staff and one positive resident cases at the home, with two units impacted.
On Dec. 27, the health unit first informed the County of Simcoe – who oversees operations at the long-term care home – of a positive case of COVID in a staff member, declaring an outbreak at the Penetanguishene facility.
According to county officials, all residents have been placed in quarantine and residents on the affected units will be placed in isolation, which includes additional personal protective equipment protocols for staff providing care/support.
As of Jan. 3, Simcoe Manor in Beeton is back in outbreak, with one asymptomatic staff case reported in their Tosorontio Unit. The staff member's last shift was on Jan. 1.
