After going more than two weeks without a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Orillia, there have been new cases on back-to-back days, says the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
A woman in her 80s has tested positive for the virus. She is in self-isolation. Yesterday, it was announced an Orillia woman in her 30s had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Another staffer at Woods Park Retirement Residence in Barrie has also tested positive for COVID-19, however no residents have yet tested positive for the virus.
Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for the health unit, confirmed the new case today, and said every resident and staff member at the facility has been tested for COVID-19.
On Wednesday, Gardner confirmed there were now outbreaks at both Woods Park and IOOF long-term care facilities in Barrie with one staff member at each facility confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Since then, Gardner said there more than 800 swabs will be taken from residents and staff by the end of the weekend. He expects those results will come in within 24 to 48 hours after that.
Since Wednesday there was also a case confirmed at a group home in Bradford West-Gwillimbury, but Gardner said he would not be identifying the group home to protect the privacy of the person who was confirmed positive.
Since yesterday, there have been four more cases added to the regional list including two cases in Barrie - a boy under ten and a woman in her 20s.
There is also a new case in a woman in her 60s in Innisfil.
The health unit has confirmed a total of 237 cases in the Simcoe Muskoka region, including 124 recoveries, and 15 deaths.
The case breakdown by community (including those who have died or recovered) is as follows:
Bradford W-G (62 cases, 19 recoveries, 7 deaths), Barrie (67 cases, 33 recoveries, 2 deaths), New Tecumseth (18 cases, 14 recoveries), Orillia (12 cases, 8 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (7 cases, all recovered), Innisfil (16 cases, 5 recoveries), Springwater (5 cases, 4 recoveries), Midland (5 cases, 4 recoveries), Wasaga Beach (6 cases, 3 recoveries, 1 death), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 1 death), Adjala-Tosorontio (6 cases, 2 recoveries), Clearview (2 cases, all recovered), Essa (3 cases, 2 recoveries), Ramara (3 cases, 2 recoveries), Tiny (2 cases, all recovered), Penetanguishene (2 cases, 1 reovery) for a total of 221 cases in Simcoe County, including 110 recoveries.
There are also 16 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 14 have recovered.
In the region, there have been 81 cases attributed to community transmission, 54 to close contact, and 53 to travel.
The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe Muskoka region is 38.2 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 90.9 cases per 100,000 population.
