Oro-Medonte man among 16 new COVID cases in Simcoe County

The health unit has reported five more cases associated with workplace outbreaks in Simcoe County

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 18 new COVID-19 cases today, 16 of which are Simcoe County residents. 

Among today's new cases is an Oro-Medonte man between 35 and 44 years old. This is a community-acquired case and is the first confirmed case in Oro-Medonte since Sept. 30.

Today's new cases also include a Wasaga Beach woman between 18 and 34 years old. The transmission for her case is still under investigation. A case reported previously from Wasaga Beach has been removed from the list and reassigned to a different health unit.

For the first time, the health unit is reporting one case associated with an educational setting outbreak. The health unit reports one woman between 18 and 34 years old from Essa has contracted COVID-19 as a result of an outbreak at an educational setting that is out of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit jurisdiction. There are no outbreaks at schools or daycares in the Simcoe-Muskoka region.

There are five cases on today's list associated with a workplace outbreak. The cases include two men between 45 and 64 years old (one from Bradford, one from New Tecumseth), a Bradford woman between 35 and 44 years old, a Bradford resident between 45 and 64 years old, and a person between 35 and 44 whose sex and location have not been identified. 

There is one more Bradford case reported today, a man between 45 and 64 years old whose case was community-acquired.

There are also three more cases associated with an outbreak at Simcoe Manor long-term care home in Beeton. The cases include two women over the age of 80 and a man between 18 and 34 years old from New Tecumseth. 

In addition to the workplace and institutional outbreak cases in New Tecumseth, there is also a close contact case in a woman between 35 and 44 years old. 

There are three new cases in Barrie: a woman between 45 and 64 years old whose case is community-acquired, a woman between 18 and 34 whose cases is under investigation, and a person between 35 and 44 years old whose case is under investigation. 

The remaining two cases reported today include a Springwater man between 18 and 34 years old, a community-acquired cases, and a Muskoka Lakes man between 45 and 64 years old (close contact).

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,099 cases of COVID-19, with 1,029 of those in Simcoe County. There are now 915 cases listed as recovered. There are 137 active cases in the region, and four people are currently hospitalized The health unit has recorded 42 deaths. 

The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 185 cases per 100,000 people.
