Second resident at Trillium Manor dies of COVID-19

Two new cases – one staff and one resident – are both on the same unit of the Orillia facility, officials say

There are two new cases of COVID-19 being reported at Trillium Manor in Orillia as of Monday night.

On Jan. 10, one resident died. This is the second death at the home related to COVID-19.

Overall, the home has reported nine positive resident cases and 19 positive staff cases, according to County of Simcoe officials.

“We are saddened to share that on Sunday, we experienced the passing of a second resident related to COVID-19. Our thoughts and condolences are with their loved ones during this difficult time,” wrote Simcoe County officials in a news release.

Both newly reported cases are on the affected Oro-Medonte unit at the Orillia long-term care home.

All residents on the affected unit remain in isolation under droplet contact precautions and are receiving in-room tray service for their meals until further direction from the health unit. All other resident units remain in quarantine only.

Trillium Manor is home to 114 residents total, and employs 180 staff members.
