Three Orillia COVID cases among 61 confirmed today in region

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 61 cases of COVID-19 in the region today, including three in Orillia.

The Orillia cases include two women between 18 and 34 years old and a man between 45 and 64 years old. All three cases are still under investigation.

In Oro-Medonte, two residents have tested positive for COVID-19, one man and one woman between 45 and 64 years old.

Among the new cases is a Collingwood man between the ages of 45 and 64 years old. His case transmission is still under investigation. 

There 21 new cases in Barrie, including one girl under 18 whose case is linked to close contact, a woman between 18 and 34 whose case is linked to a congregate setting outbreak, and a woman between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak.

The other 18 cases in Barrie list the transmission source as under investigation. They include a girl and boy under 18, five women and four men between 18 and 34 years old, one man between 35 and 44 years old, two women and three men between 45 and 64 years old, and a woman between 65 and 79 years old. 

There are three new cases in Springwater today including a boy under 18 (close contact), a woman between 18 and 34 years old, and a woman between 45 and 64 years old (both under investigation).

There are seven new cases in Innisfil today. One case, a man between 35 and 44 years old, is linked to a workplace outbreak. The other six case transmission sources are under investigation and include one man between 18 and 34 years old, a woman and two men between 35 and 44 years old, a woman between 45 and 64 years old, and a woman over the age of 80.

There are seven new cases in Bradford West Gwillimbury, all with the transmission source still under investigation. The cases include two women and a man between 18 and 34 years old, a woman and a man between 35 and 44 years old, and two women between 45 and 64 years old.

There are three new cases in Midland today, including two (a woman over the age of 80 and a man between 65 and 79 years old) linked to an institutional outbreak. The third case is a woman between 65 and 79 years old whose case is still under investigation.  

There is one new case each in Penetanguishene, Tay Township and Tiny Township. In Tiny Township, a man between 65 and 79 years old has tested positive. His case is connected to an institutional outbreak. In Tay, a man between 45 and 64 year old has tested positive. In Penetanguishene, the latest case reported is a man between 35 and 44 years old. Both the Tay and Penetanguishene cases are still under investigation. 

There are seven new cases of COVID-19 in New Tecumseth including a boy and a girl under 18, a man and a woman between 18 and 34 years old, two women between 35 and 44 years old, and a woman between 45 and 64 years old. 

The remaining cases reported today include a woman from Muskoka Lakes, a man from Gravenhurst and two women whose location information hasn't been confirmed yet. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has now confirmed 2,519 cases of COVID-19 in the region, with 2,070 of those cases recovered and 53 cases ending in death. There are more than 350 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County.

There are at least 13 people from Simcoe County hospitalized. But the health unit has noted a lag in its reporting of hospitalizations.

There have been 2,410 cases confirmed in just Simcoe County, with 1,975 of those now recovered 52 deaths.

The seven-day average incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 45 cases per 100,000 people.

~ Health unit, Dec. 9: 1 case previously assigned to Barrie and 1 case previously assigned to Essa were removed as they were re-assigned to different Public Health Units, one case previously assigned to Barrie was removed as it was determined to be a duplicate case and one case previously assigned to Tay was removed as it was determined not to meet case definition.
