Two COVID cases confirmed at separate McDonald's locations in Barrie

Restaurant at 446 Bayfield shut down last night for 'full cleaning'; Other case identified at location in south end

A positive COVID-19 case at a north-end Barrie McDonald’s led to the restaurant being shut down for cleaning Saturday night.

McDonald’s Canada spokesperson Ryma Boussoufa confirmed the positive test at the 446 Bayfield St. location. Boussoufa said all precautions were being taken to ensure the safety of employees and customers.

“It is one case and the last shift the employee had was Dec. 30,” Boussoufa said.

“Last night (Jan. 2), the restaurant was shut down for a full cleaning and employees who may have had contact with this person have been notified.”

Boussoufa said that contact has not only been minimal with the positive case, but that McDonald’s procedures have been stringent from the beginning of the virus.

“We know that we are viewed as a safe place for Canadians to come, and we have regularly timed hand-washing schedules as well as a strict mask-wearing policy,” Boussoufa said. “We even follow up with our video surveillance to find out just who a person that tested positive may have (had) contact with."

This is the second positive test at a Barrie McDonald’s in the last week. A south-end Barrie location, at 80 Barrieview Dr., had an employee who last worked on Dec. 27 test positive on Dec. 30.
