Walmart associate in Barrie stores tests positive for COVID-19

The positive test is the third for Walmarts in the region

A third person linked with Walmart stores in the region has tested positive for COVID-19, company officials have confirmed.

The third-party associate has worked at both the north- and south-end Barrie locations, with their last shifts being in the Barrie North Supercentre on April 7 and at the Barrie South Supercentre April 3.

Walmart Canada director of corporate affairs Adam Grachnik released a statement today indicating that all associates who may have been exposed to the worker have been advised to stay home.

“A third-party service provider has tested positive for COVID-19. We are keeping the service provider in our thoughts and wish them a speedy recovery,” said Grachnik. “Out of an abundance of caution, associates identified as being in close prolonged contact have been directed to self-isolate.”

He said that the stores will not need to be closed, as all health precautions are being taken.

“We have regular enhanced cleaning in the stores and other social-distancing measures in place. We’ve informed local public health officials,” Grachnik said. “Rest assured, we will continue to take measures necessary to ensure the well-being of our customers and associates.”

The news comes two days after it was reported that two other associates had tested positive. An associate from the Barrie South Supercentre last worked at the Mapleview Drive West store on April 6.

Another associate from the Alliston Walmart has also tested positive. Their last day of work at the store was March 22.
