I am pleased to read and hear that Orillia’s city council has joined a growing number of Ontario municipalities that are speaking out against Bill 23 and its misguided legislation.

I have been writing with no success to the mayor and council in Gravenhurst, where I currently reside, to encourage the town council to also speak out against Bill 23. However, I have had no response from anyone on the town council.

I am pleased that Orillia city council agreed to send a letter to Premier Doug Ford, several provincial cabinet ministers, Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop and MP Adam Chambers, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and all Ontario municipalities, calling for the bill to be overturned while highlighting its fiscal, environmental, democratic, and quality-of-life impacts.

It is my sincere hope that the Town of Gravenhurst mayor and council will also join other municipalities and speak out against Bill 23.

Doug Abernethy
Gravenhurst
