All too often we are critical of City Hall, or other municipal service providers, without also pointing out when there is a definite improvement in service. I would like to comment on a definite improvement in service.

I am a senior who has difficulty getting around the downtown in the winter. On any given day, Monday to Friday my downtown travels might see me visit three or four facilities.

Last winter after parking on the street at a meter it was often a hopeless task to get across snowbanks to the sidewalk (and feed the meter of course). I was continually looking for a break in the snowbank in order to get safely to the sidewalk. Often I had to negotiate traffic and parked cars to find that safe footing.

This winter I have noticed a definite improvement. The Downtown Management Board plow is plowing the sidewalk between the meters and on to the road. The City plows are picking that snow up on a regular basis. It is much easier to safely get to the sidewalk. The operators of the various facilities are finishing off the job. As a result the downtown is much more accessible.

So thank you to all who are responsible. It is a definite improvement to the downtown.
