Will Canadians finally get to take one small step toward the democracy we deserve? It all comes down to the vote of MPs, including our own Adam Chambers.

Our current first-past-the-post system yields demonstrably undemocratic results in the multi-party country that is Canada. In February, MPs will be asked to vote for a second time on M-86, “a motion to approve a Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform.”

Considering how to reform the system is in itself non-partisan, and citizens’ assemblies are inherently both informed and themselves democratic. According to a Leger poll conducted in 2020, approximately three-quarters of the electorate supports creating a citizens’ assembly to determine and recommend a course of action.

I’m encouraging Adam Chambers to support M-86 and help Canada find a better way to elect those who represent us with a simple email to [email protected] and a post on my social media sites.
