LETTER: 'Local' resident says paying to park at park is 'offensive'

'We work in Orillia, shop in Orillia, eat in Orillia, we attend events in Orillia, and we buy gas in Orillia,' says Cumberland Beach 'visitor'

Multiple signs have been erected near local beach parking lots to let people know about the new restrictions that are in place from Thursday through Sundays until mid-September. The goal is to dissuade visitors from coming to the area during the pandemic. Dave Dawson/OrilliaMatters File Photo

Today my daughter got turned away from Tudhope Park unless she wanted to pay $50 to park to walk the dog.

I understand this is an attempt to keep the number of visitors down because of COVID-19, however, I am not a visitor, I live in Cumberland Beach. I am a local

We work in Orillia, shop in Orillia, eat in Orillia, we attend events in Orillia, and we buy gas in Orillia.

This is offensive; we have been enjoying the parks for over 41 years. This is especially difficult for me at this time as I care for two special needs people in my home. We often purchase lunch in nearby restaurant drive-throughs and take it to the park to eat. Just buying ice cream and walking the boardwalk has become their way to get out.

Oh well, I am sorry local business and restaurants, since we are not considered locals perhaps we should be taking our business elsewhere.

At least perhaps they could give ‘local’ residents special passes. I don’t know but this is excessive and upsetting.

Not a visitor!
