I am writing as a response to a recent letter to the editor, published Dec. 27, written by Krystal Brooks.

Firstly, I sincerely applaud Ms. Brooks’s bravery to speak up and speak out about a topic that is usually dodged by ‘polite’ people. To publicly share her personal experiences of being involved with the sex trade was without a doubt a very difficult decision.

Her revealing of the sex trade to be entwined with the low-income affordable housing crisis is a ‘fresh’ insight, one that I, as an old Orillian, thought wasn’t really happening in my good ol’ hometown. Whoops, my bad. Thank you for the enlightenment.

Secondly, and not to distract from Krystal’s important message, her words led my thoughts to see another parallel, one within our current provincial government: Premier Doug Ford is a pimp.

His ‘lady’ is known as Gaia, or Mother Nature. His customers, unscrupulous land developers who want a piece of the lovely lady, have paid up front (political financial contributions) and now stand in line to get what they paid for. And a smart pimp knows that one does not disappoint the customers for fear of some kind of retribution.

Pimps are bullies, persons of low self-esteem who use the power of their position to lord over, to control, their underlings. For the moment Premier Ford remains tightly surrounded by the members of his ’hood, and has fearful support from those of even weaker character, the bobblehead MPPs who are going along with these cowardly actions.

As Gaia is forced to endure one vicious assault after another, her beauty diminishes, her value is lessened. Eventually, the once-revered beauty is reduced to a shell of worthlessness.

Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop recently brought forth a bill that does not tolerate sexual abuse at any level (which, unto itself, is an applaudable action). However, I strongly suggest that the intent of this particular bill be shone upon our province’s premier. He is a pimp and should be treated as such.
