This letter is in response to articles about plans for housing at the Regent Park United Church property and the backlash faced by the Orillia Public Library for hosting a drag queen story time, published June 8.

I want to thank OrilliaMatters for two of the articles you carried June 8. Each article was complete, well written, and brought important information to our community.

The United Church of Canada is to be congratulated for its plan to provide affordable and accessible housing on the site of Regent Park United Church. As well, its plans will continue important services to children and the community now being offered at the site.

I also want to applaud the Orillia Public Library for providing events at the library that reflect Orillia’s diversity and include the LGBT+ community. I think the library’s new CEO explained the program and the reasoning behind it very well.

Two good news stories in one day. Well done!
