OrilliaMatters welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected] or via the website. Please include your full name, daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter is in response to a story titled 'CTV Barrie unsure how layoffs, programming cuts impact station,' published Feb. 8, and 'Plug being pulled on The Source's headquarters in Barrie,' published Feb. 9.

To the Bell Media corporation that is shutting down weekend news broadcasts in Barrie — Barrie is a fast-growing city north of Toronto.

We rely on our local news daily for all facets not just "news," but also weather and local events.

This is a community situation which I hope gets changed before Bell makes drastic changes.

We value our broadcasters as friends to the community.

Please do not stop our local news.

And we also find out The Source is closing its Barrie facility.

First, we find that Bell is shutting down many radio stations across Canada and laying off hundreds. (Barrie has survived these closings.) Now they’re laying off those working in one of our large factories.

When will it stop?

And, this is after the Canadian government has given them millions.

I personally don’t see this as I will never have an overpriced Bell system of any kind in my home.

I say Bell must give back most of these millions. What have they been used for? Bonuses for the upper-echelon executives?
