The following letter is in response to our story, titled 'Iconic' Orillia street renamed in honour of Gordon Lightfoot,' published April 22.

The decision to rename Centennial Drive to acknowledge Gordon Lightfoot is appropriate. In my view a better recognition would be to rename Tudhope Park as "Gordon Lightfoot Memorial Park."

This location already recognizes his musical talents on the paths of the north point. Everyone who walks through is gripped by his excellence in storytelling.

Also the Mariposa Folk Festival is held at this location.

Centennial Drive was named to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Canada's Confederation. In addition, I believe, Orillia was incorporated as a municipality in 1867 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1967.

We could accomplish more by renaming Tudhope Park and avoid continuing to acknowledge our home city and country.
