Around 6,500 Hydro One customers in Orillia are without power this afternoon.

The outage is confined to the city, with surrounding townships unaffected, said Hydro One officials.

"It really is concentrated in Orillia proper," said Hydro One spokesperson Nick Aveling. "It's going all the way up to Wilson Point ... in the north. In the east, it's covering Sophie's Landing and Orchard point. South of there, it's going down to Victoria Point, and in terms of its sort of westernmost point, it's going up to Memorial Avenue, but even past it in a couple of locations."

The cause of the outage has yet to be determined, but power is expected to be restored later today.

Crews began work to restore power at 3:30 p.m.

"We're expecting the power to be on at 6 p.m. at this time," Aveling said.

Power outages may be monitored on Hydro One's outage map.
