You are invited to get out and explore the wild outdoors, experience new things and meet nice people by signing up for one of the many activities offered in the ninth annual, wildly popular Passport to Nature program.

Join fellow nature lovers by participating in a hybrid program of in-person events, virtual seminars and downloadable trail hikes and family activities.

The “download any time” resources are perfect for naturalists and hikers of all experience levels and are a great primer for the 19th annual Carden Challenge taking place Friday, May 26 to May 27.

Want to learn about the 23 kilometres of trails managed by the conservancy? Download our Conservancy Trails 101 with exclusive access to a video tour of some of the reserves and our full package of trail maps.

Or plan your trip to the alvar with our Experience Carden Road Trip. We plan the route, give you details on where to go, what to look for and more. Download the digital resource that takes you to two of Carden’s most famous nature reserves. You’ll discover a globally rare landscape, home to over 200 bird species.

Another great primer for spring is our Birding by Ear webinar and resources. A big part of being able to identify birds is your ability to recognize them by song. Register for a digital Zoom presentation hosted by knowledgeable local birders and naturalists. You’ll hear sound clips of common birds, strategies to help you memorize songs and species to focus on.

In-person events this year kick off with the Carden Challenge, a 24-hour birding and biodiversity fundraising marathon in support of conservation efforts for the alvar. You can participate at home or on the alvar May 26 to 27. Count as many species as possible in 24 hours to raise money to protect the Carden Alvar and win prizes and trophies. Visit www.couchichingconserv.ca/carden-challenge to donate to an already registered team or sign up your own team — but hurry; it’s almost here.

June also marks the launch of the brand-new Mission Possible series of Saving Nature adventures. Sign up to receive details for your top-secret mission that will take you 30 minutes from Orillia to a secret landscape with great diversity of species including native wildflowers, shrubs and grasslands and plenty of birds, of course.

Registration is required for all Passport to Nature events. Visit www.couchichingconserv.ca/passport-to-nature for more details on how to register. To stay up to date, sign up for our emails and follow us on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Don’t forget to tell us about how you connected with nature on one of our nature reserves. Take a photo, video or sound recording and tag us at #WildwithCC or @couchichingconservancy.
