Theatres remain closed, but there’s still a chance for people to see a movie that was filmed in Orillia and area.
All About Who You Know (previously titled Who You Know) is available on the Crave subscription service as of today.
“It’s nice to finally be able to show it to people in Canada,” said director Jake Horowitz. “It was released in the U.S. a couple of weeks ago and we’re getting a lot of good feedback from people.”
A local audience was the last to see the film during a screening in December at the Orillia Opera House. Other screenings and film festival appearances were put on hold or cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Horowitz noted the reasons for changing the movie’s title.
“Rather than having it at the end of the alphabet, we wanted more people to see it,” he said, “and All About Who You Know is more in line with the common phrase.”
The movie can be streamed on Crave now, but it will also have numerous showings on the channel, starting at 9 p.m. tonight. Those who sign up for a free Crave trial before the end of May will receive 30 days’ worth of the service.
As All About Who You Know reaches audiences, Horowitz is wrapping up editing on Cup of Cheer, another film he shot in the area. He has described it as “a parody of all those cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies.”
“It will be released in November, pandemic or not, whether we’re sitting in a theatre or at home,” he said.
More than 100 local residents either appeared in the movie or helped with it.
