The first meeting of the Orillia Naturalists’ Club will be  on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020 at 7:30 p.m., at the Orillia Museum of Art and History on Peter Street South (3rd floor with elevator)

Join wildlife advocate and award-winning author Rob Laidlaw for an illustrated talk about the mysterious and misunderstood world of bats. Learn about their diversity, habitats, lifestyles, adaptations, the threats they face and why bats are so critically important to the functioning of the natural world.

You will never look at bats the same way again!

Laidlaw has spent the past 40 years working to protect animals of all kinds. His work has taken him from Canada’s north to tropical Asia and has involved a multitude of legislative campaigns, public awareness programs, litigations and animal rescues.

Laidlaw is a Chartered Biologist, founder of the wildlife protection organization Zoocheck and a winner of the prestigious Frederic A. McGrand Lifetime Achievement Award for substantial contributions to animal welfare in Canada.

He is also the award winning author of 10 children’s books about wildlife and animal welfare, as well as numerous briefs, reports and book chapters. In his spare time, he enjoys cave exploration and solo long-distance bicycle trips.
