Award-winning journalist, broadcaster, and author Ted Barris will be launching his latest military history in Barrie on Sept. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Battle of the Atlantic: Gauntlet to Victory recounts the 2,074 days and nights that convoys of merchant marine ships, escorted by the Royal Canadian Navy, transported supplies to Great Britain. It was Canada’s longest continuous military engagement of the Second World War, and a turning point in the Allies’ fortunes, Barris says.

Georgian College will be the first stop in a national book tour Barris will be undertaking to promote his book. He will be talking about his experiences in developing the book and seeing it through publication.

He will be speaking at the college’s Rowntree Theatre, Room H106 in the H Building off Duckworth Street in Barrie’s north end.

The talk is presented by Editors Barrie, a local twig of Editors Canada, in collaboration with the Georgian College liberal arts department. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The talk is free. Participants may register on Eventbrite.ca by searching Ted Barris, or Editors Barrie.
