Building on a welcome Christmas tradition, Don Evans and the band called Alex are bringing A Child's Christmas in Wales and catchy, festive music back to the Orillia Museum of Art and History.

Sing-a-long carols and new songs by Alex will usher in the compelling presentation by Evans, an emeritus member of the band. This will be the fourth year of this growing Alex Christmas gathering.

"It will be a chance for people to sing some of the seasonal music they love, and listen to a wonderful traditional story by Dylan Thomas," says Margaret Pomeroy, the band member who has created song sheets for the audience.

"We used to read A Child's Christmas in Wales in our house every year as I was growing up," she adds. "Now we're bringing music and this lovely story to others."

The eight-member Orillia-based folk band Alex is a local tradition in itself. The band has been welcoming audiences with great harmonies and fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, bodhran, pipes, autoharp, and keyboard for more years than its members can count.

Alex performed the Christmas program of reading and songs in St. Catharines in 2017, and will also be presenting it in Mississauga this year on Dec. 15.

Alex’s other venues include regular gigs at the downtown Farmers’ Market and frequent spots at the Mariposa Folk Festival. Band members know how to have a good time making music, and like to share the good times with others.

The beloved A Child’s Christmas in Wales with Alex will be presented at OMAH, 30 Peter St. S., on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018.

The performance gets underway at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:30. Admission is by donation, in support of The Sharing Place and OMAH.

Hot cider will be provided by way of refreshment, to add to the warmth of the afternoon.

For further information, please contact Ninette Gyorody of OMAH at 705-326-2159, extension 101, or Alex member Susan Charters, 705-325-8463.
