'Once again, we are seeing that this government refuses to listen to science and they continue to make decisions based on political science,' says Brassard

A Barrie MP’s efforts to bring federal restrictions to an end were unsuccessful Monday.

John Brassard, Barrie-Innisfil MP and Opposition House Leader, brought a motion to table a plan to end all federal mandates. But it failed to gain the support of Liberal and NDP party members.

Brassard called it a "sad day for Canada."

“Canadians have been telling us for quite some time that they want COVID restrictions lifted, our economy fully opened up and their lives to return to some normalcy,” he said in a statement, which also accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of wedging the pandemic for political gain.

Conservatives have repeatedly asked the Liberal government to table a solid extra strategy, Brassard added.

The local MP said he has received hundreds of emails from people across the riding who are tired of living with restrictions.

“Once again, we are seeing that this government refuses to listen to science and they continue to make decisions based on political science," Brassard said.
