Dial Moving Delivery & Storage, a long-time moving company based out of Orillia, announced this morning that they have sold the family-owned and operated business.
“I’ve come to that point I want to move on in life and enjoy life while I’m still on this side of the grass,” said owner Ben Wiggins with a tear in his eye.
“It’s a young man’s job, and I just got to the point where I needed to retire and move on,” he added.
Dial Moving, located on Murphy Road for the longest time, has been in business since 1973 and has been family owned and operated since Day 1. They served Orillia and the surrounding community with thousands of moves over the years.
“I’ve walked backwards upstairs more than the average man has walked forward,” joked Wiggins
In addition to being a "regular" moving company, they are the only moving company north of Toronto that specialized in moving pianos, Wiggins said.
“I’ve put pianos everywhere you can imagine and moved them with every technique the book has to offer: cranes, over balconies, through windows, and even some techniques I invented on site,” said Wiggins.
Even though the sale has been finalized, Wiggins couldn’t confirm who the new owner(s) are or who the new company is. He said the company's current employees are not part of the deal.
“Thank you to the long-time employees for their support and loyalty and what we’ve accomplished over the years,” stated Wiggins.
“Our motto has always been ‘moving families and their dreams’ and now it’s time for us to move as a family and follow our new dreams,” added Dale Wiggins, Ben’s wife.
The owners thank the people of Orillia and the surrounding areas for their "tremendous support" over the years.
“It’s been a good run and we enjoyed every minute of it, (so) it's bittersweet," said Wiggins.
