When everyday people make a lifesaving connection, the impact is significant, notes a news release from Canadian Blood Services (CBS).

Cancer patients, accident victims, and people with immunodeficiency, autoimmune and neurological disorders rely on blood, platelets, and plasma donations every day.

Patients need donors like you to act, noted the news release.

"Book and keep your donation appointment. Ask your friends and family to join Canada’s Lifeline and encourage them to book an appointment to donate blood or plasma," urged the media release.

A small group of donors is meeting the needs of the entire country.

"We’re asking everyone who is eligible across Canada to join 'Canada’s lifeline and donate," said a CBS official. "There’s never been a better time to commit to patients and help save lives. Will you take about an hour of your time to donate blood or plasma to help save a life?"

Locally, a blood donation clinic is coming to Orillia in September.

Canadian Blood Services will be at the Best Western Plus Mariposa Inn and Conference Centre, at 400 Memorial Ave., Sept. 11 from 3 to 7 p.m.

All blood types are needed, especially O-negative since it can be transfused to any patient.

Appointments are required and can be made at blood.ca or by calling 1-888-2DONATE.
