Bogus notice about coronavirus at RVH making the rounds

'If you receive this message, delete it immediately. Do not open the link. There have been no presumptive or confirmed cases of the #coronavirus at RVH,' hospital officials say

Officials at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) want the public to know that a post making the rounds on social media and through text about the Barrie hospital having a confirmed case of coronavirus is completely false.

On Twitter today, RVH officials said they were notified by a member of the public about the fake news going around and included a screenshot of the bogus story, which is presented to appear like a CTV report.

"If you receive this message, delete it immediately. Do not open the link. There have been no presumptive or confirmed cases of the #coronavirus at RVH," read the health centre's tweet, which went out shortly after noon on Friday.

RVH officials say they will keep the public informed about any updates through their website and official channels.

"RVH is well prepared to deal with the novel coronavirus," the hospital noted in another tweet. "Safety is our promise and we have detailed plans in place if a patient arrives with symptoms."

More information is available at rvh.on.ca.
