BREAKING NEWS: Second confirmed COVID-19 case at OSMH

Few details have been released about the local case; There are now more than 300 confirmed cases in Ontario

A second person has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH).

A hospital official confirmed the information to OrilliaMatters Friday afternoon. The person was tested at OSMH on March 15 and had travelled outside the country.

It's unknown if the patient is male or female and where the person travelled. The person is self-isolating.

The first confirmed case in Orillia was a man in his 60s was was tested at OSMH on March 16. The test came back positive March 18. The man is self-isolating at home, and the health unit said this case is related to travel out of the country.

There were 50 new cases confirmed in Ontario this morning, bringing the provincial total to over 300 cases.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has eight confirmed cases and another 2 “probable” cases in Simcoe County. One of the two fatalities in Canada also happened in our region when a man in his 70s died at Barrie's Royal Victoria Hospital.
