CDC hosting 'inspiring, fun' event for local entrepreneurs

April 5 event at Casino Rama will feature panel of local entrepreneurs and experts to help businesses 'achieve lasting success'

The Orillia Community Development Corp. will be hosting an event April 5 during which local entrepreneurs will share their experiences through their various business ventures.

Have you ever wondered how to find your people; the people who can help set you up for success in your entrepreneurial journey?

The Orillia Area CDC is hosting an inspiring and fun event to help you do just that on April 5 at Casino Rama. Join fellow business owners and community members to learn how to achieve lasting success by building the right team of people, both within and outside your organization.

A highlight of the event will be two panels of local business owners sharing their experiences throughout the various stages of their entrepreneurial journeys. Our panelists will be:

  • Kevin Le, The UPS Store
    • Kevin immigrated to Canada from Vietnam, on a quest to provide his family with a better future. Hear him share his experience taking over the UPS Store.
  • Patricia Cousineau, Bird House Nature Company
    • In the exciting venture of buying the Bird House, Patricia learned how to utilize her resources creatively, including her staff and loyal customers.
  • Timm McLean, Windmill Garden Centre & Landscaping
    • Timm chose to purchase a business with an established track record and firm foundation, a decision that was worth the wait.
  • Geoff White, Georgian Bakery
    • Running restaurants runs in the family, and Geoff is no exception. He has experience operating restaurants and is experienced as both a business buyer and seller.
  • John Beischer, Farm View Newspaper
    • This unique business has been a family business since 1977. Farm View Newspaper serves the local farming and agriculture industry with news, events and announcements.
  • Korine Keyzer, Aknor Construction
    • For the past 10 years, Korine Keyzer has applied her extensive HR, logistics and trucking experience as the owner of Aknor Construction. She's grown with the business as it evolved into a specialized float service.

In addition, presenter Barb Simmons, ADM Office of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity, will talk about mentorship and knowledge transfer critical to business growth, longevity , and eventual succession.

Kelly McKenna, executive director Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board and Literacy Network, will share the latest workforce trends and opportunities and Sarah-Jane VandenBerg, owner of Career Growth, will demonstrate how to make strategic networking part of your personal comfort zone and business growth strategy.

All this and more, including lunch and refreshments for $20 make this an event not to be missed.
