Despite COVID and how it affected the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), we were able to continue with our annual scholarship program. In the spring of 2021, 26 female students received scholarships to help with the cost of post-secondary education.

These scholarships ranged from $400 to $800 for a total of $15,000. Each student was required to submit an application form, academic transcripts and reference letters. CFUW evaluated each student’s school involvement, community involvement, academics and financial need.

Every student is different. Some have the time to be very involved with their school and community, whereas others are needed helping out at home or taking a job to help make ends meet. Integrity, being a team player and a love of learning are important characteristics we consider, in whatever form it takes.

We are happy to announce that we will once again be offering scholarships for the 2022 graduates from Orillia Secondary School, Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School, and Twin Lakes Secondary School, mature students and Learning Centre students.

The applications can be found on our website cfuworillia.org. Once there, click on scholarships. You will find three types of applications. The regular application is for students graduating this year from one of the Orillia high schools, there is a Learning Centre application and one for mature students who have been away from school for a while but plan to go to post-secondary in the fall.

The instructions are very clearly stated. If the applications do not adhere to what is asked they may not be considered. There is a gmail address to send the applications to and where questions can be asked if necessary. The deadline for receiving applications is April 14, 2022.
