Tomorrow, Friday April 24, churches in Orillia have been invited to ring bells at two events planned in response to the horrific shootings in Nova Scotia.

The first event is the request by the National Police Federation to wear red and observe two minutes of silence at 1 p.m. This is because the RCMP are unable to observe a proper funeral for their fallen comrade.

The second event has been organized on Facebook: ColchesterSupportOurCommunities, running from 7 to 10 p.m..

Incumbent Reverend Canon John Anderson, St. James’ Anglican Church, states: “Our hearts go out to the families and friends who have lost loved ones in this senseless tragedy. As Canadians we are all connected in some way to these events, and I know for some they may have a particular connection with Nova Scotia.”

Funeral bells will be ringing 22 times - one for each victim - at 1 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. to honour the victims. Please practice physical distancing if you are outside listening to the bells.
