This month’s Orillia blood donor clinic is being dedicated to the memory of Orillia’s Glenn Payne, who died in January.
While the proprietor of Payne Plumbing and Heating ultimately lost his battle with leukemia, blood transfusions were critical in helping him fight the disease and extend his life.
“On April 14, 2018, Glenn received his first three blood transfusions at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital,” said Glenn’s widow, Marilyn.
During the next 8.5 months, he received numerous transfusions of both red blood cells and platelets at Barrie’s Royal Victoria Hospital and Toronto’s Princess Margaret Hospital.
“Our family is so thankful to have had that blood supply available to help him,” said Marilyn on behalf of their children: Kelly, Alison and Mathew.
“This was only possible because of those who donate their blood on a regular basis.”
The family is hopeful Orillians will step up next week and donate blood in his memory.
“Glenn knew so many people in this community,” said Marilyn. “Our hope is that those who knew him will help to continue providing this wonderful and necessary service by coming out to donate on April 11.”
The Orillia Blood Donor Clinic is slated for Thursday, April 11 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Best Western Mariposa Inn at 400 Memorial Ave.
You may not be eligible to donate if your own health or the safety of the blood supply would be at risk by having you do so.
Making an appointment to donate has never been easier. Visit blood.ca, download their GiveBlood app or call 1-888-2-DONATE and find a nearby donation site.
Walk-in appointments are also available.
