City says 1,500 people have cast ballots at advance voting days

There are three more opportunities — including one today — to cast a ballot in this year's municipal election ahead of Election Day, Oct. 24
Vote however you like during the April 16 provincial election, but please vote.

Orillia voters have begun casting their ballots ahead of the Oct. 24 municipal election.

To date, in two advance votes, 1,500 citizens have voted; that’s up slightly from the 1,331 residents who took advantage of the first two early opportunities in the last municipal election in 2018.

Kristine Preston, the city’s deputy clerk, says 840 people voted on Oct. 8 at the Orillia Recreation Centre and 660 voters attended the second advance vote on Oct. 12.

Many citizens have expressed concerns they haven’t received their voter notification cards (VNCs), but Preston notes they are not required to vote.

“Voters without a VNC may simply attend the voting location with identification showing their name and qualifying address,” said Preston.

She said VNCs were mailed out to all voters on the voters’ list as of Sept. 19, 2022.

Preston said those wanting to confirm voting information were urged to visit Voterlookup.ca prior to Sept 1. Now that the date has passed, citizens can visit the Orillia City Centre, 50 Andrew St. S. to confirm their information.

Individuals who are not on the voters' list, or who wish to update information on the voters' list, must complete an application to amend the voters' list form which is available at any advance voting day, or at the voting location on Voting Day, noted Preston.

Each individual submitting a form for approval will be required to present identification showing their name and qualifying address.

Information regarding voting in the 2022 municipal election, including advance voting locations and where and how to vote on Election Day, can be found here.

If you still want to vote early, there is a third advance voting opportunity today (Oct. 14) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orillia Recreation Centre.

You can also vote on Tuesday, Oct. 18 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rotary Place in west Orillia. The final advance voting opportunity is Thursday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Orillia Recreation Centre.

On Election Day, Oct. 24, you can vote between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at various locations.

Ward 1 voters can cast their ballots at the Masonic Building at 24 James St.

Ward 2 voters will be voting at the Orillia Recreation Centre.

Ward 3 voters can vote at Rotary Place and Ward 4 voters can cast their ballots at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School (15 Commerce Rd.)
