Centennial Drive may soon be renamed in honour of Orillia’s late folk legend, Gordon Lightfoot.

At Monday’s council meeting, Coun. Jeff Czetwerzuk tabled an inquiry motion to rename the waterfront road either Lightfoot Lane or Lightfoot Drive.

“This is the year he passed away,” Czetwerzuk said. “It's going to be a reconstructed road; it's going to be a really big part of our waterfront in our downtown. I think it'd be a great way to honour the late Gordon Lightfoot.”

Council supported Czetwerzuk’s idea, and directed city staff to prepare a report for consideration during the 2024 budget deliberations.

“Great idea by Councillor Czetwerzuk, I think it's a really wonderful one, and full credit to him for doing all the legwork and moving this forward,” said Coun. Jay Fallis.
