Cassie Dasilva's new single, part of the club, will be available Jan. 12.

Local pop sensation Cassie Dasilva has a new single coming out Friday, just in time to chase away your January blahs.

Dasilva dubs the single, titled part of the club, a “reluctant love song.” She says, “I've always had an aversion to conventional relationships – specifically marriage – but this song is about finding the person who makes you stop and think, ‘I can see why people might do all this.’”

Dasilva’s previous single, Unsolicited Contact, came out nearly three years ago and went viral on TikTok with over one million views.

You can check out the new single, and the music video that goes with it, this Friday on YouTube here and all major viewing platforms. Fun fact? Dasilva’s producer, music video producer and choreographer are all women ... her goal is to build a female-fronted team within the music industry. Enjoy!

Have you ever asked yourself how you can contribute to Truth and Reconciliation? St. Paul’s Centre is hosting an activity that will help you with that. The two-and-a-half hour free workshop in the morning of Thursday, Jan. 25 will have participants doing work that responds to the Call 83 art projects in the Ogimaa Miskwaaki Gallery at St. Paul’s. Contact Sharon at [email protected] to register.

The Orillia Museum of Art and History (OMAH) has three new exhibits starting Jan. 20 and an opening reception will be held at the museum from 1 to 3 p.m. that day. Come out and enjoy some nibblies, and hear and see these new exhibits: Seeing Beyond, Works by Robyn Rennie; Sybil, Connections Fibre Artists; and Grant’s Legacy, Capturing Orillia’s History on Film.

A program called Mixed Media Artwork with artists Robyn Rennie and Peter Fyfe will be presented at OMAH on Jan. 24. You can register here.

Don’t forget about this month’s OMAH History Speaker, Dave Town, on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Visit the website to get the link.

On Jan. 20, take a drive down the highway and check out the Chasing Away the Winter Blues Concert, at Dalston United Church at 1734 Penetanguishene Rd. The show will feature original songs and covers by Rick Groves and Emer O’Driscoll. The event gets under way at 2 p.m.

On Wed. Jan. 17 from 7 to 9 p.m., come to Picnic Tapas and Wine and enjoy Writers in the Round, with songwriters James Gray, Rebekah Hawker, and Michael Martyn. This will be a great night of talented songwriting and music ... don’t miss it!

Of course, you are getting your tickets for the St. Paul’s Centre’s production of The Music Man, which is happening Jan. 24 to 28 at the centre. Jan. 24, the show is pay what you can. For tickets to the other nights or afternoons, some of which include a meal, go to the website at www.stpaulscentre.ca. This is a do-not-miss show, believe me.

Live music this weekend? Friday, Jeremiah Hill; Saturday, Jakob Pearce and Dave Hewitt, and Sunday Jazz in the Afternoon with Will Davis and Chris Robinson, all at Couchiching Craft Brewery. See you out there!

If you have arts news, send it to [email protected] by Tuesday at noon to be included.
