COLUMN: The unquestionable love of a dog and its owner

Rebecca Thivierge's canine companion, who's 13, suffers from arthritis and a neurological disorder that has rendered his back legs useless

I’m always watching what's happening around me and what people are doing when I’m out walking with my camera.

I recently saw a woman strapping her dog into a set of wheels along Kempenfelt Bay, as the dog was clearly disabled.

I sat down on a nearby bench and with my large zoom lens, captured a beautifully heartwarming scene unfold before me.

It was the unquestionable love between a dog and its owner as they struggled to overcome a seemingly impossible mobility issue together.

After the scene played out, I stepped forward, introduced myself, and had a short chat with her.

The owner’s name is Rebecca Thivierge, and the salt-and-pepper companion is a 13-year-old dog that goes by the name of Goat.

Goat is suffering from the effects of arthritis and a neurological disorder that has rendered his back legs useless.

It started out as a struggle trying to get Goat to get rolling with his new wheels, but after a short time, he was getting much better at it.

The pair took a break to have a drink of water, then retired to a shady spot under a tree overlooking the lake for a well-deserved rest and to enjoy some cuddle time.

In a world full of strife and divisiveness, it’s always nice to capture some of the true love between friends that is out there.
