Community support helped build Mariposa House Hospice

Non-profit organization pays homage to contributors who made it 'possible to build a residential hospice in our community'

Mariposa House Hospice (MHH) is a new five-bed residential setting which will open its doors early in 2021. It will provide 24-hour specialized end-of-life palliative care to individuals, while welcoming and supporting their family and friends.

MHH is a non-profit organization serving the communities of Orillia, Severn, Oro-Medonte, Ramara, and Chippewas of Rama First Nation. All services will be offered at no charge thanks to the generous support of our community.

In addition to the clinical and administrative staff team, Mariposa House Hospice will have more than 50 volunteers who will give their time and talents each week to help the hospice thrive in supporting residents and their family and friends deal with one of life’s greatest challenges.

To make this a reality, Mariposa House Hospice launched a $3.5 million capital campaign in 2017. After securing a capital grant from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the County of Simcoe, the remaining funds were raised through private donations including contributions from local businesses, families, and the surrounding municipalities.

As the building nears completion after breaking ground in August of 2019 (click here to read that story), the organization wants to publicly acknowledge some of the major capital contributions with a five-part series of articles that begin today and will run Tuesday mornings.

In part 1, Mariposa House Hospice is pleased to recognize and thank the following contributors for making it possible to build a residential hospice in our community.

  • The Estate of Sheila Macfeeters
  • City of Orillia
  • John and Marguerite Ward
