Road improvements to meet the growing development in west Orillia continue with the widening of West Ridge Boulevard. Construction is now underway on West Ridge Boulevard from Highway 12 to Hunter Valley Road.
Improvements will include the widening of the roadway to five lanes, installation of an asphalt multi-use trail, storm sewers with new catch basins and the relocation of traffic signals at two intersections.
When the road work is complete, University Avenue and West Ridge Boulevard will be a continuous five-lane corridor between Old Barrie Road and Highway 12.
This is the third and final phase of a series of improvements in west Orillia to meet the current and future traffic demands associated with the growth in the area.
The first and second phases included:
- The addition of a second right-turn lane to the southbound Highway 11 off-ramp where it meets Highway 12.
- The addition of a second left-turn lane on Highway 12 at the West Ridge Boulevard and at the Monarch Drive intersections.
- The addition of a second right-turn lane on Monarch Drive at Highway 12.
- Multi-use trails on the north and south side of Highway 12 from West Ridge Boulevard towards Highway 11.
