'Country-styled fair' in Coldwater draws a crowd (VIDEO)

'The sun is out ... Come out, have a good time, and enjoy what we have to offer,' says fair president

Coldwater is welcoming thousands of people into the community this weekend for the 129th annual Fall Fair.

Marlene Limpright, the president of the event, says Coldwater has one of the best fairs in all of Ontario.

"We are very busy and very big," she said. "We have not lost participation or volunteers throughout the years and we've enjoyed continued success."

The Coldwater Canadiana Heritage Museum has its steam engines on display during the event again this year which gives it something unique.

"I think that's what draws a lot of people," Limpright said. "They actually use the steam engines to boil water and make corn, it's very good."

The Coldwater Fall Fair can also attribute some of its annual success to securing a midway through the pandemic when the industry took a massive hit.

"The past president, Matt Murray, has a really good relationship with Magical Midways," Limpright explained. "They cater to us a little bit because they really like us and we treat them well."

The beef and dairy shows, goat shows, and rooster competitions are also back this year, which Limpright says the community is excited about.

The main event of the fair each year is the demolition derby, which was held on Friday night. The tractor pulls get underway at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

"People love seeing how much these big trucks can pull," Limpright said. "It's a nice country-styled fair."

Limpright notes the fair costs about $100,000 to put on each year and it takes hundreds of volunteers.

"We usually make that money back at the gate," she said. "Any extra money stays with us so we can start making deposits for next year."

Limpright estimates that 14,000 people will visit the Coldwater Fair Grounds this weekend.

"The sun is out and it's nice and shiny," she said. "Come out, have a good time, and enjoy what we have to offer."

The Coldwater Fall Fair wraps up on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Admission on Saturday costs $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and youth, and $4 for juniors.

On Sunday, admission costs $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and youth, and $4 for juniors. There is also a special family day package where two adults and two juniors can enjoy the fair on Sunday for $15 when they pay at the main gate.
