This is National Volunteer Week in Canada. This celebration recognizes the commitment, dedication, generosity and selflessness of those individuals who donate their time to support programs and services that are close to their hearts. While the roles of volunteers have changed due to important COVID-19 public health protocols, their efforts throughout the year are not forgotten.

The County of Simcoe is grateful to our more than 500 Simcoe Strong volunteers, who last year gave approximately 24,350 hours of their time to our Long-Term Care homes and Simcoe County Museum, through the Friends of the Simcoe County Museum.

During COVID-19, our volunteers have found new ways to share kindness and love with our residents including through the Simcoe County Museum’s Hallen Family #GiftofHistory program and through individual efforts to decorate outside facilities and stand outside windows with messages of thanks and support to our Long-Term Care and Seniors Services staff and residents. The County is so grateful for their efforts to continue to stay connected, while honouring physical distancing and safety guidelines.

The county encourages residents to take a moment this week to post a Cheers to Volunteers! poster in their windows for all to see. Poster templates are available at Volunteer.ca or you can make your own. Also, Canadians can post Volunteer Canada’s gif on social media with the hashtags #CheersToVolunteers and #NVW2020.

To follow the county’s efforts to support of our communities through the COVID-19 pandemic, like or follow County of Simcoe on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

County of Simcoe is composed of sixteen member municipalities and provides crucial public services to county residents in addition to providing paramedic and social services to the separated cities of Barrie and Orillia. Visit our website at simcoe.ca.
