Winds turned a "controlled burn" into an out-of-control wildfire in Oro-Medonte Township on Monday.
Officials say what started as a permitted grass fire was whipped up by winds and quickly became unmanageable.
As a result, Oro-Medonte firefighters were called to the fire at the corner of Line 10 South and the Ridge Road area when the blaze became a 10-acre fire that consumed fields in the area.
There were more than 20 firefighters from Hawkestone, Rugby and Moonstone on the scene. At 3:30 p.m., the fire was close to being under control thanks to their efforts.
The firefighters ensured no structures were set ablaze as they worked hard to control the fire and its path.
