The North Simcoe Muskoka Hospice Palliative Care Network (NSMHPCN) invites you to join them for an evening of discussion surrounding the important questions we all face in relation to death and dying.

The NSMHPCN’s Death over Dinner series will take place using the virtual platform, Zoom, and is free of charge.

Michael Hebb is the co-founder of Death over Diner – an organization that encourages people and talk about the one thing that we all have in common; death. Death over Dinner is an end-of-life awareness campaign that offers advice on how to have some of these conversations not just at the dinner table but everywhere.

Participants are invited to grab a plate of nibbly bits and pour themselves a glass of their favourite beverage to enjoy while they sit and converse at the virtual NSMHPCN Death over Dinner table.

Rachel Lapensee, Clinical Nurse Manager with the NSMHPCN explains, “The sessions are not really about death at all but rather give people permission and guidance to connect deeply with themselves and the people in their lives.”

Certified Hospice Palliative Care Nurse (CHPCN) Consultants Nancy Good-Kennedy and Julie Leighton-Phelps, from the NSMHPCN, will host October and November sessions.

“The one-hour Death over Dinner event which I attended was facilitated by two nurses who had prepared thought provoking questions around death, our death, and what we want that to look like," said Mary, an event attendee.

"For instance, if we have the choice, what do we want our final days or hours to look like? How do we want to be remembered? What would we like our epitaph to say?” Mary explained. “Death Over Dinner meetings encourage us to talk to our family members about our wishes.”

The virtual table has been set for 15; NSMHPCN hopes you will join them for an uplifting and interactive evening to connect with people and discuss how we want to live at the end of life. Registration is required, for your reservation at the table.
