Once again, in spite of the pandemic, CFUW (Canadian Federation of University Women) awarded scholarships to many female high school graduates in 2020.

These scholarships help students to finance further studies right after high school or as mature students going back to pursue further education. Twenty-five scholarships valued between $450 and $1,100 were awarded totalling $15,000.

All three Orillia high schools had eight scholarship winners and the Learning Centre one.

The scholarship recipients are as follows: Tara Story, Laura Steiner, Logan Ross, Jaime Couvrette, Madison Woolhouse, Veda Sharpe, Emily Hawton, Allisa Nicholson, Kellie Nicholson, Jessica Cuthbertson, Kallista Jacobs, Mickinley Naughton, Hannah Dyell, Julianne Pires, Ceili Hopkins, Elaine Treash, Claire Lassaline, Amber Connell, Alyssa Mandarino, Taylor Smith, Hannah Lye, Madelyn Vickers, Eryn Babcock, Isatu Barrie, and Abby Austin.

In addition to the $15,000 dedicated to this year’s scholarships, there was a special donation made by Connie Simo. A student enrolled in a nursing program was awarded this $750 scholarship. The Sylvia Simo Fuller scholarship award was donated to honour Sylvia Simo Fuller who was an excellent registered nurse and nursing educator.

In addition to these scholarships $1,000 was given to Lakehead University to support the Humanities 101 program.

Scholarships will continue in 2021. Check out our website in early 2021 for application forms.
