NEWS RELEASE

MARIPOSA GRANDMOTHERS TO GRANDMOTHERS

********************

Orillia Mariposa Grandmothers to Grandmothers, part of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, is an active group of Orillia and area women fundraising to make a difference in the lives of African grandmothers.

With almost no support, African grandmothers have stepped forward to care for millions of children orphaned by AIDS, sometimes as many as 10 to 15 in one household. Through the 240 chapters in Canada, the Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign raises funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s work with community level organizations in Africa that provide grandmothers and the children in their care with the necessities of life, including counselling, nutrition, shelter, school supplies and income generation.

The 4th Annual Yards and Yarns Sale is scheduled on Saturday, September 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 300 Coldwater Rd. W. in Orillia. Shoppers receive a tote bag to be filled with quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting and rug-making supplies – all for just $15.

Members of the Orillia group, as well as many community volunteers, have been sewing their signature tote bags for the sale, but are still asking for donations of unused fabric, buttons, patterns, beads, ribbon, quilting supplies, knitting supplies, crochet hooks, pattern books, rug hooking supplies, embroidery floss, zippers, or any and all types of craft supplies.

Anyone wishing to donate please call Heather at 705-325-8594 or Tina at 705-259-2725.
