Couchiching Craft Brewing Co. head brewer, Christian Hand, said the brewery has a variety of activities planned for a Canada Day event the business is hosting in its downtown parking lot.

With the city’s Canada Day festivities moved from their traditional place at Couchiching Beach Park, Couchiching Craft Brewing Co. has opted to brew up its own celebration at its downtown location.

From 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on July 1, the brewery is hosting an outdoor event in its parking lot, free of charge, for all to attend.

Head brewer, Christian Hand, said numerous local businesses are pitching in make the event a good one.

“We’ve got a big party planned for Canada Day and we're setting up some things in the parking lot,” Hand told OrilliaMatters. “I'm going to put an outdoor bar out there. We've got our friends from Lone Wolf Cafe coming over (and) doing some coffee-based drinks out there.”

“We've got some new beers coming out, and we've got some bands playing music as well, too, so it's gonna be a fun Canada Day.”

On Canada Day, the brewery will be debuting a new lager and wheat beer, among others, for the public to enjoy.

Wine tastings from Redtail Vineyards and cider from Duntroon Cyder House will be available at the event, as well.

Hand said the event was created to give people more options on Canada Day and to bring people downtown to celebrate.

“It's great having things at the park, but … (bringing) people downtown helps all the businesses around as well, too, and shuffles people back and forth,” he said.

“You get to have some fun at the park and go see the fireworks, and then get to come up here and explore the downtown and have some drinks and have some food and check out everything else that's happening.”

Beyond the event at Couchiching Craft Brewing Co., Canada Day festivities will also take place at Tudhope Park and the Orillia Recreation Centre.
