Dr. Harry Hall to speak about his 'eventful' career at OMAH event

Harry Hall, a well-known local physician, kicks off the 2020 History Speakers Series at the Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) on Wednesday, Jan. 15, with his talk “My Eventful Life as a Doctor and Around the World.”

Dr. Hall spent a total of 57 years in medical practice, 54 of those years treating patients from Orillia and surrounding area. Over those years of practice, Dr. Hall witnessed the evolution of medicine.

Dr. Harry Hall has a lot of stories to tell, not just drawing on his career in Orillia, but from working in rural and remote areas around the world filling in for regular physicians.

He will talk about medicine from the heights of academia to extreme isolation. Dr. Hall recently wrote a memoir of his life titled The Tales of Doctor Harry, Retired Rural Doctor, available for purchase at the Orillia Museum of Art & History. It is sure to be an engaging evening.

Mark your calendars for Feb. 19 to hear OMAH History Committee member and board of directors member John Merritt deliver a Black History Month presentation: Black Settlement in Oro Township. John has researched, written and spoken about the settlement for many years.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the talks start at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, donations to OMAH are appreciated. All are welcome.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the annual Sir John A. Macdonald Dinner - A Celebration of Canada, being held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at the Hawk Ridge Golf and Country Club.

This fundraising dinner is approaching quickly. Our guest speaker Dr. Kevin Kee who grew up in Orillia, is Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ottawa and a noted digital humanist, author and historian. He will talk about creative ways to probe our past.

Tickets are $65 each and payment by cash, cheque, debit and credit card are accepted.
