Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie is hosting a Pay Equity Breakfast on April 13. This will be their first in-person event since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The guest speaker for the event is Kadie Ward, Commissioner and CAO, Pay Equity Commission, Ontario Ministry of Labour. Ward will cover a variety of topics around the importance of pay equity, economic recovery, tourism, hospitality, and small retail, followed by a Q&A.

There will be tea and coffee and a breakfast buffet catered by Chef Melanie Robinson, owner of Orillia’s Eclectic Café.

The event will be held on April 13, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Creative Nomad Studios, 23 Mississauga Street West, Orillia. Tickets are available individually and as tables of six. To purchase tickets, visit www.trellis.org/payequity2022

Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie would like to thank their Workforce Development Sponsor for the event, the City of Orillia Business Development Office. Thank you to the two Orillia branches of Scotiabank, the event's coffee/tea sponsors.

Funds raised from the event will go directly to Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie and the programs they run for women in the Simcoe County area, including their Professional Clothing Assistance program, their Breakfast Club program, and their Professional Women’s Group program.

These three programs are designed to help women get the job interview and have the appropriate clothing for it; gain the confidence and skills to attain meaningful employment; and retain employment and grow professionally and personally.

Dress for Success states, “Our vision is a world where women do not live in poverty. We strive for a world where all women are financially independent, are treated with dignity and respect and are directly impacting their lives and those of their families. We aspire to a world that fully harnesses the power of women and recognizes their role in economic sustainability.”

This year, Equal Pay Day in Canada is on April 12, 2022. The date changes every year to symbolize how far into the year the average woman must work in order to have earned what the average man had earned the entire previous year.
