The Stephen Leacock Associates is reinstating the students’ humour competition in 2021 for humorous stories or humorous personal memoirs for those between 14 and 19 years.
They may be students in public, separate, private or home school situations in Ontario. Because the competition was cancelled in 2020 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are honouring entries from students who missed out, even if they have gone on to post-secondary education.
There will be cash prizes for the authors of the three winning student essays. First prize is $1,000, second prize is $700, and third prize is $300.
The student award prizes are sponsored by the Dunkley Charitable Foundation.

The three winners will be honoured at the Meet the Authors Night, the Friday of The Leacock Gala Weekend, June 4, 2021. There, they will read their pieces and receive their cash awards.
Two commemorative certificates will be given each student, noting their accomplishment - one for themselves and one for their school.
In addition, each will receive a gift certificate towards a humour book of their choice from Manticore Books who will be onsite that evening. They will also hear excerpts from the books of the three finalists for The Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour and get to meet these and other professional authors.
