How do you measure the success of a fundraising event?

Of course, the community always awaits the announcement to hear the bottom line, how much was raised for Mariposa House Hospice (MHH)?

However, there are many other measurables to consider, such as the community gathering for this event after a four-year break due to a global pandemic, local businesses being showcased and supported, the feelings of togetherness, creating new awareness for a charity that opened during the pandemic and is spreading its wings in the greater Couchiching region, not to mention fun, laughter and entertainment.

The fundraising team made up entirely of local volunteers, and co-chaired by Marg Reid and the mother-daughter team of Jess and Gini Stringer, worked diligently for months to pull together an evening of great fashion, music, service, and information. The team literally put the “fun” in fundraising.

The guests gathered at Hawk Ridge Golf Club on April 20 for the Butterfly Kisses Fashion Show to view fresh, new spring fashions from eight local vendors: CC Fashions, Kelly’s Klothing, Kahuna Surf Shop, Footprints on Muskoka, Studio 11, Dapper Depot, Wish Bridal, and Ballare the Dance Boutique.

The evening was well rounded being led by local radio host of Pure Country, Carey Moran, and music provided by Wild Honey Mobile Record Show with lively, on-stage modelling by local community members and leaders like one of the MHH board members, John Mayo, Chief Ted Williams of Chippewas of Rama First Nation and Orillia Mayor Don McIsaac.

The extended trailer of a brand-new communications video by Heidman Definition was shown to give the attendees a look into the life that happens under the roof of MHH. The full version with family member testimonials will be launched this coming week to the public.

“I am so proud of our accomplishments," said Reid. "The committee worked tirelessly on this project and it was definitely a success. We could not have accomplished this without the outstanding community support from all of our sponsors and participating stores. A huge thank you to all of you.”

The staff and family members of Mariposa House Hospice would also like to thank the volunteers, sponsors, donors, special guests, vendors, OPP officers, and attendees for their support of quality, end-of-life residential hospice care for our community.

The total raised from the event is $19,493.42, which is an increase of almost $4,500 from the 2019 MHH fashion show. Keep an eye out for next year’s fashion show as this will be an ongoing annual event.
